On June 8, 2010, the voters of the City of East Palo Alto passed a new Rent Stabilization and Just Cause for Eviction Ordinance. The Ordinance significantly changes the law governing rental units in the City of East Palo Alto, most notably:
• The new ordinance eliminates the rent control exemption for owners who own four or fewer rental units in the City of East Palo Alto.
• The new ordinance increases the restrictions on how and when an owner may recover a rental unit for their or their family’s use.
• The new ordinance requires all owners of rental units to re-register their units for determination of maximum rents and exemptions not later than January 1, 2011.
